Camellia Oil, pressed from camellia seed, is a skincare oil passed down among women in East Asia for centuries.
Valerie Ann Worwood lists it again and again as the carrier of choice for a luxury facial oil. It is rich in oleic acid (Omega-9). The molecules are very small, so it moves through the epidermis quickly and does not clog pores.
1. Why it is hard to replace
- Antioxidant: tea polyphenols give it a strong role against ageing of the skin.
- Kind to sensitive skin: very mild, and it can calm redness and itch.
- A fine feel: after it is applied, skin has a silky feel.
2. Two classic blends (with sources)
Blend 1: a calming facial oil
- Who: skin that flushes easily, with a thin barrier.
- Source: The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, Valerie Ann Worwood (Page 337)
- Carrier: Camellia seed oil 25ml
- Evening Primrose oil: 2ml
- Essential oils: German Chamomile 3 drops + Sandalwood 15 drops.
- How: morning and night. The mildness of camellia with chamomile suits skin that reddens easily.
Blend 2: a hand and nail oil
- Who: dry hands, and anyone who has manicures often.
- Source: The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, Valerie Ann Worwood (Page 446)
- Camellia seed oil: 30ml
- Tamanu oil: 15ml
- How: blend and massage into the hands. Camellia softens rough skin quickly.
